Finding Strength, Serenity, and Long-Term Value at Yerba Buena Island

Published October 23, 2026

When Corbin and Amy Falvo began searching for their first home, they looked all over downtown San Francisco. Then they remembered the residences they watched take shape on Yerba Buena Island a few years earlier and decided to experience the island and its community for themselves.

“You feel both connected to the city but also in your own space,” Corbin says.

That sense of being a world apart, yet only minutes away, now shapes their mornings, their commutes, and the way they think about real estate investment in San Francisco.

Fitness Close to Home

For Corbin, the workweek begins with movement.

Most mornings, he walks to the fitness center for weight training and cardio before returning home to prepare for the day ahead. It is a ritual he upholds with remarkable consistency, sustained less by discipline and more by proximity.

“I use the gym easily 5 days a week and it is all new equipment – very well maintained,” he says. “It couldn’t be easier.”

The Jay Wright-designed fitness center includes a dedicated Peloton bike studio, yoga and pilates classes that anchor each week, monthly pop-ups to introduce something new, and group classes that turn a solitary workout into a shared one. For residents who prefer a more personal approach, private strength and cardio sessions are available à la carte, either at home or on-site in the fitness center.

Peace Across the Hillsides

A Yerba Buena Island workout rarely ends at the studio door.

Right outside trails wind across the island’s hillsides and down toward the water. The Stairs Loop, inspired by San Francisco’s public stairways, spans 1.6 miles to the top of the island. The shorter Infinity Loop circles the high ground near Panorama Park at the summit of Yerba Buena Island. There, Hiroshi Sugimoto’s “Point of Infinity” stands against the open sky, and the Bay unfolds in all directions.

“It is almost impossible to find a reason to not be out and about or to prioritize our wellness on this island,” Corbin says. “It’s so satisfying.”

His experience reflects the island’s broader approach to everyday wellbeing, in which time outdoors becomes a natural part of the day itself. A strength session in the morning can give way to an unhurried walk along the hillside paths by evening, with the city skyline in view across the water.

In this setting, strength, vitality and peace belong to the same day in equal measure.

A World Apart, Yet Minutes Away

Proximity is what allows the island’s calm to coexist with demanding careers.

Corbin, a principal for executive talent and strategic initiatives at an AI company, notes his drive downtown is around eight minutes door to door. Amy, an executive assistant to the CEO at a venture capital firm, travels by the Treasure Island Ferry, which reaches the Ferry Building in about eight minutes, and then she walks just a few blocks to her office. With downtown San Francisco and the East Bay both within easy reach, the island never feels isolated.

Evenings bring a comforting return. A welcome from the staff at the front desk, a quiet hour on the patio or in one of the shared spaces, and the pace of the city begins to recede. Over the past couple of years, many neighbors have become close friends of Corbin and Amy, though without any sort of pressure.

“It’s a good mix of social when you want, private when you don’t,” Corbin describes.

The workday belongs to the city. Everything around it belongs to the island.

Real Estate Investment in San Francisco – Reconsidered

For the Falvos, the decision to buy here rested on far more than a single amenity. For buyers asking what the best real estate investment opportunity in San Francisco looks like today, Yerba Buena Island offers a clear set of benefits to consider.

Its limited collection of move-in ready homes is designed by Hart Howerton, set within 72 acres of parks, trails, and open space. Plus, it is also a community already in motion. Resident programming brings neighbors together for happy hours, quarterly celebrations, food-centered gatherings, educational walk-and-talks with guest speakers, and an annual year-end party. Corbin’s favorite is the Fourth of July celebration, when neighbors plan a barbecue together, bring dishes to share, and walk up to the parks and lookout spots to watch fireworks. Afterward, many return for a glass of wine and each other’s company, making it a full night of revelry.

“I’d say absolutely consider Yerba Buena Island. The mix of proximity to the city, amenities offered on the island, and overall quality of life out here has been nothing short of fantastic for us,” Corbin says.

This is a neighborhood already lived in, not one waiting to be solidified. For many residents, that is the measure of Yerba Buena Island: movement in the morning, peace by evening, and a city that remains close without ever crowding in. It is a distinctly different way to experience San Francisco.
