Watch: Quintessential Island Living Captured on Film at The Bristol

Published July 11, 2024

From breathtaking views that span the Bay to moments of serenity in the miles of green surrounding The Bristol, our latest video captures the allure of life on Yerba Buena Island.

The Bristol’s collection of Condominiums perfectly embodies the quintessential California lifestyle – and more. Here, you are connected to more of everything – acres of nature, miles of trails, scenic parks, and tranquil coves, all a convenient ~8-minute ferry ride to downtown San Francisco.

Designed by Tim Slattery of Hart Howerton, with interiors by Vivian Lee of Edmonds + Lee Architects, The Bristol Residences offer expansive, comfortable living spaces enriched with natural materials and textures, complemented by incredible views. In a recent interview, architect Tim Slattery shared, “We reinterpreted classical architecture with a modern expression, focusing on capturing the breathtaking views prevalent on the island. This emphasis on views translated into expansive windows, carefully composed to evoke a classic proportion and scale while maintaining a serene aesthetic.”

“My goal was to highlight the island’s beauty through the architecture’s elegance,” Vivian Lee said of her design choices throughout The Bristol, from the Lobby Lounge to the Residences. “We want all the Residents here to be inspired when they wake up in the morning.”

Amenities Inspire Connection

At the heart of The Bristol is a serene Garden Courtyard, featuring a 25-foot Grandiflora Victoria Magnolia tree. This al fresco space invites Residents to relax, take in the sun, and greet their neighbors.

The Bristol’s Rooftop Deck captures the stunning sights of the Bay Area’s most iconic landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island, the Marin Headlands, and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Here, Residents can lounge, gather, watch the sunrise or sunset, and take in the beauty of the Bay together.

The double-height, open-air Lobby Lounge is designed as an indoor-outdoor gathering space that exudes comfort and timeless modernity, with a fireplace serving as the focal point for lounges overlooking the courtyard. “The open-air Lobby is a great space to sit by the fire with a book or have a glass of wine with friends,” said Jack Lease, a Resident at The Bristol who purchased his Condominium the same day he toured it for the first time. Additional amenities include a Fitness Center that overlooks the idyllic Garden Courtyard and a Children’s Playroom.

“I go to the Fitness Center all the time…I’ll be working out on a bike while looking out at the magnolia tree in the Garden Courtyard; it’s incredible,” Resident Michael Lee added, when asked about his go-to amenities at The Bristol, “I love the open-air Lobby; it’s beautiful with the fireplace. I don’t feel like I’m just living in my unit, but I’m living in the entire building. It’s nice having multiple places to exist beyond my own Residence.”

A Community That Exceeds Expectations

Residents at The Bristol enjoy an unexpectedly tight-knit community. With a variety of community events – from yoga classes to happy hour and game night – there are always opportunities to connect. Resident Mark Hartmann remarked, “Those community events are great for meeting new people, and the Residents have taken it upon themselves to organize even more social events. You’re also constantly bumping into one another here, whether on the ferry or in the lobby.”

“The level of community spirit here often surprises people, and that makes it a great place to live,” added Jack Lease, a Resident who often organizes social events with neighbors.

“[The Bristol] has a European feel where everybody can open their doors and participate in the action if they want to,” Tim Slattery said of his plan to connect the Garden Courtyard to a Piazza that leads to the trails. “Here, it’s reminiscent of a European village, where things are walkable, you know your neighbors, you do things together. A true community.”

According to Sumeetha Jacob, one of The Bristol’s first Residents, “It’s just great to live where you have access to nature and everything the city has to offer…I didn’t think my life could get any better, and then I discovered Yerba Buena Island.”
